The fabulous Sarah from Saturday Sequins posted a fun hop, and I jumped right on board!
Never one to miss an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone, I quickly decided to combine this challenge with another. I'm part of a FB group called Operation Tackle that Bead Stash. It's a totally fun group, and we are collecting Bead Quilt Squares for the Bead-It-Forward Quilt Project. You can learn more about it here
Now, did I happen to metion that I've not done bead embroidery? Nope. Not ever.
I didn't make the mistake of saying, 'How hard could it be?' I have at least learned that lesson!
But I did keep putting it off...until yesterday!
It's not too bad, but not nearly as pretty as I wanted it. Now that I've got my feet wet, I'm going to try a few different styles, especially because I have some really cool sequins I wanted to use, but they were a bit too big for this design.
That's a very sad attempt at a sun in the upper right. It was also a lot harder to keep straight ends than I had imagined. Overall, I'm very happy I got it made, and I really, really love how the sequins look.
Thanks Sarah, for this great challenge. Looking forward to more, since I have more sequins!
Here's the rest of the crowd! Go check out their cool stuff!

Shirley, I love your bead embroidery! The flowers and the sun are adorable.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you joined us in the hop and that you want to keep working with beads and sequins! Cyndi Lavin of Beading Arts has a great series of eBooks on bead embroidery, and the first chapter is free.
I might hold another challenge in April, and you're more than welcome to join in that one, too!
Sweet piece, the sun shines down and the flower sequins are so cute. xox
ReplyDeleteShirley,
ReplyDeleteYou, addicted to challenges? Say it isn't so! :)
I love how willing you are to jump in and experiment - it's really inspiring. And your bead square is really cute. A perfect little flower garden. Has a certain whimsy that I really find appealing.
Hi Shirley,
ReplyDeleteAh that beaded embroidery quilt square is precious and beautifully designed, great job for your first time. I bet the reason you thought bead embroidery was easy was because of all the fantastic bead embroiders out there that makes it look easy. I was fooled too, but the bead embroidery bug has bit me and I find myself wanting to do it more and more.
Therese
Nice work with your sequins! I think I need to join this group 'operation tackle that bead stash' oh boy do I need to do that!
ReplyDeleteI love this. You did a wonderful job. Come see my call for artists

Just a glance back at summer before the autumn wind pick up and send us into winter. Very cool!
ReplyDeleteShirley, that is soooo sweet! I love the flowers, and the sun is just fine...maybe you could twist some more threads of beads together and make it even more knarly!!
ReplyDeleteVery sweet square! Those flowers are just so pretty -- fab job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet piece! This is a nice first attempt!
ReplyDeleteAmbra

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry it has taken me SO LONG to get over here. Our modem died over the weekend, making blog hopping quite difficult. Blarg!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, how great that you got to kill two birds with this project! And it's so stinkin' cute at that. You are braver than I am in attempting the bead embroidery. Way to go!
