Ok, you get to give some serious input here.
A couple of beading buddies were talking recently, and one stated that there had been a huge shift in media interface. (Look at me using big words!) In plain talk, that folks didn't read blogs as much, they used fb more for interaction.
What do you think?
I do fb quite a bit, but it doesn't really help you to know the person. That's what I think blogs are for. And maybe everyone already knew this, and that's why they host giveaways on their blogs.

Congrats! Message me your address, and I'll get it right out to you. (and you know you have to make me some metal-ly goodness from it, right? Oh, you didn't read that fine print??)
So everyone let me know, do you think blogging is 'so 20 seconds ago'? Or does it still serve a vital purpose? If so, then how do we 'promote it'?
And before you go, just because we all need some beady goodness, right?

Well, I have really been unmotivated lately to keep up with my blog...maybe that's because it seems like nobody reads it! Facebook is definitely more of a captive audience. People have to make more of an effort to read a blog, whereas Facebook is right there in front of you in the newsfeed. And oddly, one of the things that I don't like about blogs is that I don't want to put myself out there for the whole world to get to know. I know, that's probably not good for promoting my business, but it's who I am. And likely why I don't get many readers on my blog, BECAUSE I'm not willing to let the world see my innermost self. I will be interested to see what others think about this topic.
ReplyDeleteOh I love my blog but I am in the mass of shifting at the moment. I want to get better with not only my own blog but all my friends blogs too. I really think it is a great way to get to know someone and what they love and don't care for!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for including my little vessel on here! I am so horrible at the blogging that I hardly feel qualified to answer, lol! I have to really force myself. Of course, lately, I haven't even been posting to FB that much... but I'm lurking everywhere, and ready everything. I think this is just a bad time of year for me to try to put myself out there. Spring and fall seem to be my introspective times.
ReplyDeleteI feel like there was a huge blog movement over the last couple of years. And I still think there is a place for it. I started blogging simply because I wanted to share, and sharing with my husband just wasn't cutting it! I was amazed to see a true group of friends emerge and I am still making friends. I don't think that could happen on FB alone!
ReplyDeleteHi Shirley,
ReplyDeleteI love my blog, although it seems that the only time I post is when I have a challenge reveal. Note to self, need to get better at posting. I go to facebook and look around and I interact some what, but I would rather blog and read other blogs, they are just more personal to me. I know how Kathy feels and I have a tendency to hold back on my personal problems whether it is on the blogs or especially facebook. I'm also some what shy, I know those that have met me are saying "Oh no she's not", but that is only because I feel that I already know them before we meet and that is because of blogging. I hope this makes sense, because some, no most of the time I am all over the place with my thoughts.

Wow - thank you so much! Can't wait to get the book. I have not worked with metal, and this will push me to do it. I am going out to buy one of those heavy steel blocks, and a special hammer.
ReplyDeleteI think each social media tool serves for something. You usually need a tool box to build anything - you wouldn't make your jewelry with the same tools you use for making bread, would you?
ReplyDeleteYou need a combination of different tools and use them to use each other. Post your.blog articles onto Facebook with one click and get the most of both worlds :)
I love blogs, its the best part of my day when I sit down to read them and to see what everyone has been up to. So much more personal than facebook with a lot more information, tutorials, photos etc. I have a facebook page but don't really use it much. Love my blog more.
ReplyDeleteI do think you can get to know people better from their blogs. But I've been unable to keep up with my own AND my friends' blogs. If someone posts on FB that they have a new blog post AND if they link to it (as you did), I go there. But I don't even look at my blog feed on Google any more. I'm actually wanting to cut way back on screen time because I don't get anything done! I prefer to blame that on the media and not myself. HA!
ReplyDeleteYay Lisa! I hope blogs aren't a thing of the past. I really enjoy reading blogs. I check my reader before I check Facebook. There are blogs I've followed for six years or so, I feel like I really know these people, I think that's pretty special (and hopefully doesn't sound creepy?) I've only just started my own blog, but I love watching it grow and having new people come by... It feels like having folks comedy my blog is like having them over to my home. Whereas seeing folks on Facebook is like being at a large party, maybe a quick conversation, or longer... I'm not sure how much sense that makes but I guess put me on the blog side. Thanks again for the shout out too :) blog AND Facebook buddy
ReplyDeleteI don't think blogs are going away, I think they serve a different purpose than FB. Think of it this way ... if you want the headlines you go to CNN Headline News (like Twitter .. just headlines), if you want a little more you might watch the nightly news (like Facebook a soundbite or paragraph) but it you really are interested in the topic you might read a newspaper or magazine or online news site ((like a blog). Just like Alicia said each have their rolls, and FB/ or twitter are great at promoting, but for any depth the blog is where to go.
ReplyDeleteI've only been blogging 10 months now, and I feel like I'm only just finding a rhythm to it. I love it. I like being able to write about things I find interesting, and I love to get comments from people to see how they feel about it too. I also enjoy the new friendships I've made through blogging and checking out what everyone else is talking about. I get great ideas, or just have wonderful conversations. But you got to put yourself out there if you want others to follow you, or comment. We all want people to read our blogs, but that means you got to get out there are read others - and we only really know you've read it if you leave comments!
